The 2022 Yam Festival Celebration At Klefe Traditional Area

The aim of this report is to ask why the Yam Festival is being Celebrated every year , the challenges, to ask about their expectations, achievements, and also their comparison on this year’s yam festival compare to 2021.

There were series of activities held which include Career Path handling for the Pupils of Klefe Basic School on 23rd August 2022, Agic-Preneurship on the 24th August , health screening for men with Prostate Cancer , just to mention but a few. There was this particular program which was exempted because of the rains , which is the Adidime Waterfalls Jam due to the heavy down pour , which was scheduled for Sunday 28th August,2022. “This year’s Yam Festival celebration went on well as planned by the Grace of God, customary rite of Nubabla which essence is to enstoppe all bad things during and after the program has been observed, traditional rite of purification (Gb)mekp)kplo) which is to cast out evil spirit from the community ( cleansing) has all taken place” said Mr. Delali Kasu. According to him and other Committee members (planning) their main challenge this year is financial issues. Their main expectation from this year’s celebration is to be able to raise One billion Ghana cedis to aid development works in the Klefe Technical Institute ( KTI)and God being so good they have achieved it.

Yam Festival is a festival celebrated among the people of the Volta Region every year to hail the arrival of new Yam. The people of Klefe Traditional Area as well had their celebration in rich and beautiful culture. And also to welcome the beginning of a new year as it is believed by them. MMTI media had an encounter with the Chairman of the Publicity Committee and former Assembly man of the Klefe Electoral Area Hon. Delali Kasu who took the media through various activities for this year’s celebration and also gave answer to the few questions which was asked. According to him, the theme for this year’s celebration was “Community and Central Government Partnership, a necessary Collaboration for Holistic Education “.

Comparing this years Yam festival celebration to last year’s due to financial issues, most people were not able to come for the celebration as compared to last year but we hope that next year’s celebration will be bigger than this , he stated. The grand durbar took place on Saturday 17th September, 2022 and a Thanksgiving service on Sunday 18th September, 2022. The grandbdurbar was graced with dignitaries like the Minister of Education being the Special guest of Honour in the person of Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum. Other Guest of honours are Professor Ben Q. Honyenugan –Vice Chancellor of Ho Technical University. Mawusi Nudekor Awity –Director General TVET service.
