A young man nearly shed tears after buying GOB3 for Ghc14.00

The economic situation in the country has compelled many Ghanaians to struggle to make ends meet. Transport fares has risen to an unimaginable margin, sachet water at a cost of Ghc10.00 per bag, foodstuffs are getting expensive day in day out. In spite of these, many of the youth can no longer afford a three square meal a day.

A young man who was interviewed by a TV3 reporter on the current economic hardship at a GOB3 joint in Accra, following the President’s address to the nation lamented bitterly about the current price of his favourite “life saver” Gob3. Gob3 is one of the most popular and ever satisfying meal enjoyed by most Ghanaians because of its nutritional value and it’s less cost as compared to other foods. Many young people including low income folks resort to eaten it due to how it sustains them for hours when complimented by drinking water.

According to the young man, Gob3 has become expensive that it was far beyond his budget before he set off from the house, but on reaching there the prices had changed which he could not afford to return than to buy the Gob3 at it’s new price. At first,he could buy the Gob3 and plantain at Ghc6.00 but now beans alone cost Ghc6.00 and plantain giving a total of Ghc14.00. He was very furious and hungry at the same time so he just had to go ahead and and take the food. Because of this he couldn’t even enjoy his meal as he used to. During the interview with the TV3 reporter, the young man almost shed tears for spending Ghc14.00 for only Gob3 and he hadn’t even bought drinking water yet.

CLUBFOOT is Treatable

Clubfoot (scientifically called Talipes) is where a baby is born with a foot or feet that turns in and under. In clubfoot, one foot or both feet point down and inwards with the sole of the foot facing backwards. It is a common type of birth defect that affects the bones, muscles, tendons and blood vessels in the feet. Clubfoot occurs in babies when the Achilles tendon( the largest tendon at the back of the ankle) is too short. Though it is not painful for babies,it can become painful and make it difficult to walk if it’s not treated . Clubfoot can be treated in two phases, casting and bracing.

Christian Association of Ghana and Hope Walks have collaborated with the Tamale Teaching Hospital to treat children with clubfoot in Ghana for free. It is estimated that over 1,130 children are born with clubfoot every year in Ghana. Since the program began, the Ghana Clubfoot program had enrolled more than 7,700 children in treatment. Hope Walks in collaboration with Christian Hospitals Association of Ghana have  partnered with Tamale Teaching Hospital to treat children with clubfoot using the Ponseti method of cast and braces. The cast is worn got the child over a few weeks or months and when the foot is in its correct position the baby is fitted with a brace to prevent the feet from elapsing.

According to the Programs Manager of Hope Walks, Mrs. Nana Afua Adutwumwaa Adjetey, Stigmatization of children with clubfoot should be eradicated as a matter of urgency and parents must know that the treatment of the clubfoot is free at their five centers( 2 in Accra, 1 in Kumasi, 1 in Tamale and 1 in Duayaw- Nkwanta) including the Tamale Teaching Hospital where transportation allowance is given to vulnerable parents. She further explained that untreated clubfoot becomes a disability and a burden to the family and lack of educational opportunity. This means that the impact is not just physical but relational, social and financial.

The Association is urging all parents to seek quick medical attention at the various centers for their children’s clubfoot to be corrected because clubfoot can always be corrected at any stage but it is advisable to seek treatment immediately after birth as soon as it is identified to avoid family burdens, societal stigma and any other ill treatment.

Breast cancer awareness month

Understanding Breast Cancer
Cancer is a broad term for a class of diseases characterized by abnormal cells that grow and invade healthy cells in the body. Breast cancer starts in the cells of the breast as a group of cancer cells that can then invade surrounding tissues or spread (metastasize) to other areas of the body.

Female breast diagram

Breast cancer occurs when malignant tumors develop in the breast. These cells can spread by breaking away from the original tumor and entering blood vessels or lymph vessels, which branch into tissues throughout the body. When cancer cells travel to other parts of the body and begin damaging other tissues and organs, the process is called metastasis.

A regional Minister collapses as his driver bolts with 17 million cedis galamsey proceeds.

GHOne TV reports that a Ghanaian regional Minister had collapsed presumably out of shock after his driver absconded with his illegal mining (galamsey) proceeds. Remember, galamsey is illegal in Ghana yet our leaders apparently engage in it and make such absurd profits . Galamsey has gradually emerged as the most talked about activity .

President Akuffo-Addo on his assumption of office promised to put his presidency on the line to curb galamsey. Sadly after five years the country can be said to have gone worse from how it was in 2017. The President had launched a number of raids on galamsey sites and yet the fight is gradually being lost. Well over the past few weeks, President Akuffo-Addo has met some chiefs and also MMDCEs over how to tackle the issue of galamsey. In a meeting with the Asantehene on Sunday, the President again reiterated his desire to stop galamsey before leaving office. Many have criticized the President for failing to deal with his own appointees who are involved in galamsey.

Well, news coming in from EIB Network managers of GHOne and starr FM has it that the regional Minister collapsed after his driver run away with his share of the galamsey money. Many have the driver for playing such a stunt on his boss because they the same people ruining the economy.
